Project OikOs examines the concept of space and place specifically found in the small business space. Oikos is a Greek word for "house, habitation" from which the word ecumene is derived—"the inhabited world" and economy (oikonomia) (household management). The class explored many topics associated with the idea of place. Other terms such as urban space, environment, industry, dwelling, home, territory, habitat, cyberspace, and village inspired the student's imagery and motion media. But the project focus was on the place of business. We sought to extend our comprehension of the necessities which may rule our lives, i.e. the business place. Class discussion ranged from how a place of business shapes our comprehension, and works to assure or reassure us of what is expected in our lives.
